Subject: great show
drove in from penn st for this barnburner. remember a guy in front of us in overalls boogying down (he was about 400 lbs and went crazy during cumberland). miss the spectrum for lively shows.

Subject: Return of H>S>F
We were all on edge looking for the DS. Didn't get it but did get a great run of shows. This was probably the best of the run, a very good H>S>F here for sure. .

Strongest night of the run.1st set is very good...good renditions of the newer stuff.Cumberland has some great Jerry guitar licks .Help>Slip>Franklins is classic and post space is hot !Jerry tears it up on Dear Mr.Fantasy>Hey jude reprise then it melts right into Death Dont Have No Mercy. On Dear Mr. Fantasy Jerry is playing the best solo for that that song I've heard .I may add that Drums and Space got down right scary at moments with the quadraphonic sound.I remember it rumbling like a train passing by at one point.Good audience quality on this classic Spectrum show. This run may not have been flawless ,but the boys delivered
yet another awesome Spectrum set of shows.

Subject: Spectrum audience. . .I'm there!
Having grown up outside of Philly, I would choose this audience over a soundboard anyday. The energy is palpable, and this excellent recording captures thw waves of emotion and ambient effects, especially Brent's trippy sounds during "Estimated." Affectionately dupped the Cement Doughnut I've spent many a show "watching" the sound circulate the building. Also, it's a peppy Eyes, which is something I'm always on the lookout for.

Subject: 1st show magic
Drove up from MD for this, without the benefit of having tickets, so I freely admit to being part of the problem of too many people showing up without them. BUT, I had money to burn & $50 each later a friend & I had a ticket to seats that made our noses bleed. Scored some decent acid from friends @ the show, and thus the journey began. I had tapes of both sets years ago & really only listened to them a few times, but more recent listenings have shown me what was a pretty damn good show. The song selection--mostly--was what I could've hoped for, with the lone exception of Baby Blue, which seemed to be anti-climatic. I also recall being kinda frightened during SPACE & how the building seemd to be shaking WAY too much. All of the rafters in the ceiling were MOVING like they were made of rubber, which made me scared that the whole structure would collapse from all the "noise".
After leaving the show, my freind who didn't get in had apparently killed the car battery listening to the radio, and ended up spending the night in the lot. While wondering the parking lots there was some dude who was obviously on too much LSD who was jumping on the hoods of cars & kicking in windshields. He came up to us mumbling something about how his friends had screwed him over & he wanted to role-play with us playing the part of his friends. I was expecting to be attacked as he saw us as the ones who'd screwed him, BUT, Phillie's Phinest quickly drove up to us to confront him about the damaged vehicles. We just started walking away as they got out & asked him to "come over & talk to them." As we were walking away, we turned after hearing a comotion to see the dude wrestling with one of the cops and one of the other 2 pigs with his night stick raised above his head who brought it down onto this guys skull a few times. Still being a little frazzled from the acid, there was no way we were sticking around for anything further---so we RAN!!! Back to the car and hid for awhile until some Spectrum security came over and asked us what we saw. They said the dude was bleeding profusely as they threw him into the Police Truck (Dead Kennedy's ref) & quickly sped off. I often wonder what became of that guy, but I suspect nothing good.

Anyway, yes the show was great, and an overall 4 star experience.

to call the sound quality on this just okay is really a disservice. the sound on this is exceptional. i wish all audiences sounded this good.

There is a perfect inverse correlation between your ratings and a show's true quality. You need to check your meds with this one you have never been farther off.

This has alot of energy although the gaps between songs (which was became increasingly common)is unprofessional and annoying. Hot cumberland and the whole first set is great - No real standouts just solid Spectrum.

Second set is really solid as well nice est>eyes. Back end out of space is really good - great DMF, Death++

Subject: Best night of this great run at the Spectrum
Having already tore up the landscape up and down the east coast (i.e. Hampton, NJ) like a hurricane in the weeks prior to landing in Philadelphia, we all knew the boys were poised to bring their '89 magic to the Spectrum for this run. We never got a Dark Star but...this night was filled with the peak glory of this tour.

The first set was exteremely solid, closing with a great Cumberland and the Cassidy they used for the album "Without a Net".

I'll never forget the second set. Jerry walked out and was all business. Pulled his then long hair back into a ponytail, grabbed his guitar and leveled us with this stellar Help-slip-franks. A great Estimated-Eyes, and super post-space bunch including the rare and here very strong, Death Don't...
